Product overview
The Kobelt 7175‑MZ is a waterproof, illuminated marine indicator that continuously displays the vessel’s actual rudder position at the bridge or another steering-control station.
It receives its signal from a 1 kΩ rudder feedback potentiometer, such as the Kobelt 7163, 7168 or 7174. One 7175‑MZ master can operate with as many as five compatible slave indicators.

Main features
- Three-colour port and starboard scale
- Backlit display for day and night operation
- Waterproof front face
- Compact bridge-console installation
- Adjustable zero and span
- Master and slave configurations available
- Up to six indicators in one operational loop
- Reversed indicator available for aft-facing stations
- Compatible with established Kobelt rudder-feedback units
- Current Z-series replaces several discontinued 7175 versions
Operating principle
A rudder feedback unit mechanically follows the steering gear or rudder stock. Its potentiometer produces an electrical signal proportional to the rudder angle.
The 7175‑MZ receives this signal and moves its pointer to show the rudder’s actual port or starboard position. Slave indicators can repeat the master indication at additional control stations.
Applications
- Ship wheelhouses
- Bridge wings
- Aft steering stations
- Emergency steering rooms
- Tugboats and workboats
- Ferries and passenger vessels
- Offshore-support vessels
- Commercial and naval vessels
- Rudder-order and steering-control systems
Current 7175-series part numbers
| Part number | Configuration |
|---|---|
| 7175‑MZ | Master rudder-angle indicator |
| 7175‑SZ | Slave rudder-angle indicator |
| 7175‑SRZ | Reversed slave rudder-angle indicator |
| 7175‑HMZ | Master rudder-order indicator |
| 7175‑HSZ | Slave rudder-order indicator |
